Adelaide to Adelaide Hills Retreats- How long does it take to drive there?

It generally takes around 30 minutes from Adelaide to arrive at our Retreats, however, peak hour may stretch it out a little, but if you choose to come up via the South Eastern Freeway, getting off at the Hahndorf exit, you will find it an easy twenty-minute drive from the Toll Gate to Villa Lemoni and The Nest.

Instead of just driving up straight to your Retreat, why don’t you plan to arrive up to the Hills for a lazy lunch first? We can recommend driving up Greenhill Road, heading up the Hills from Burnside, a bit off the beaten track, taking you through lovely scenery up through Summertown and Uraidla. In fact, the eclectic Uraidla Hotel is a great spot to stop and dine in for a relaxed lunch. (click here for The Uraidla Hotel menu) Their food is fabulous and the quirky Hotel really is such a fascinating place to visit. (Make sure you walk upstairs and look at the upside-down floor lamps attached to the ceiling like an elegant chandelier!) You can call to book a table on 8390 0500. It may be advisable to, especially on weekends when all the locals are available to go out and about too!

Once you head back to the car, an easy 15 minute drive through Carey Gully, will lead you right into Balhannah and your Retreat. If you aren’t a local to the Hills area, this is a great drive up from Adelaide and to get a feel for the Adelaide Hills beauty and its gorgeous views.

The most common drive up to the Hills though is driving the South Eastern Freeway and getting off at the Hahndorf exit. Hahndorf is a tourism hub in the Hills and is home to a number of authentic dining experiences. You could make a booking at The Haus, click here for the Haus menu and enjoy a fabulous meal on the outdoor terrace at the front of the restaurant…It would be best to book ahead on 8388 7555.

If you wanted to check out our blog on dining places around the Hills, you may like to take one of our other many suggestions too…we are so spoilt for choice here in the Hills, when it comes to food and wine…

After a nice lazy lunch, you can then meander across to Balhannah to your Retreat and settle in for the afternoon/ evening! Open a bottle that you may have purchased on your way up, and celebrate that you are now officially on holidays! Aaaahhhhh!!
